Experience
Nine years, two countries, one question
I started with the youngest children in Kyiv, teaching primary-school English, and then trained a second time — in corrective education, as a speech therapist for preschool children with speech disorders. That second qualification changed how I teach. Once you have worked with a child who genuinely cannot produce a sound, you stop confusing "won't" with "can't", and you stop treating every quiet week as a failure.
Over more than nine years I have taught children aged 1 to 12, and founded a children's educational centre in Ukraine that worked with more than fifty families. Then I moved to Dubai, flew for Emirates, and kept teaching the whole time — because the question mothers asked me never changed, wherever I was: my English is not perfect, so how am I supposed to give it to my child?
Mommy & Me English is my answer to that question. It does not ask you to sit your child down for lessons, and it does not ask your English to be flawless. It puts the language into the day you already have — the morning, the meals, the walk, the bath, the bedtime story — because that is where a child under five actually learns language: from a person she trusts, in the middle of ordinary life.
I write about all of it on the blog — the silent period, the child who refuses to speak English with her mother, whether it is too late to start at four, and what to do when the words seem to disappear.
